EchoLink Operation
Before attempting to uplink, please ensure that the node is not in use by sending a DTMF 0. The node will respond with a status message. This message will inform you if the node is either available or currently connected to another node.
If the node is available and you wish to connect to another node
- You must first identify your station. The licensee of this node is responsible for the correct operation of the node. Please be courteous by adhering to this requirement.
- To connect to a node. Key in the EchoLink number for the node that you are calling prefixed by a
DTMF C. For example if the EchoLink node number is 12345, the use DTMF C12345 to connect to that node. - Once connected, wait 10 seconds to ensure that you do not interrupt a local QSO that may be in progress.
- Key up for 1 second before speaking to allow for propagation delays over the internet.
- Wait at least 3 seconds between overs to allow other stations to call in.
- The timeout period for IRLP is 4 minutes. If you key up for longer than 4 minutes the system will automatically disconnect from the remote node.
- There is a 15 minute idle or no activity timeout when connected to another node.
- Once you have completed your QSO, use DTMF 73 to disconnect.

If the node is available and you wish to connect to a conference
- You must first identify your station. The licensee of this node is responsible for the correct operation of the node. Please be courteous by adhering to this requirement.
- To connect to a conference. Key in the EchoLink number for the conference that you are calling prefixed by a DTMF C. For example if the EchoLink conference number is 12345, then use DTMF C12345 to connect to that conference.
- Once connected, wait at least a minumum of 15 - 30 seconds to ensure that you do not interrupt a QSO that may be in progress or a controlled net
- Key up for 1 to 2 seconds before speaking to allow for propagation delays over the internet
- Wait at least 5 seconds between overs to allow other stations to call in. This requirement is slightly longer due to the large number of repeaters that may be connected to the conference
- The timeout period for IRLP is 4 minutes. If you key up for longer than 4 minutes the system will automatically disconnect from the conference.
- There is a 15 minute idle or no activity timeout when connected to a conference. Feel free to connect and just listen to a conference.
- To disconnect from a conference, use DTMF 73 or allow the conference to timeout and disconnect automatically.
